Day 10: July 18, 2008

Today is the last day of the Summer Ecology Camp. We went to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. First we went to the visitor's center. There was a huge map of the park and then we watched a movie about the history and what we could see there. Then we drove to the top of Mt. Cadillac. It was beautiful. We walked around the top and then we drove down. We could see for miles and the ocean was very blue. Then we went to Sand Beach and the water was very cold. Some people built sand castles and some people dug holes in the sand. Then we went to a place called Thunder Hole. The waves crashed on the rocks and splashed people. Acadia was very fun and we all want to go back again. We drove through Bar Harbor and most people had not been there before. It was very fun and everyone was very tired all the way back to Milbridge.
Day 9: July 17, 2008

Today is the last day of the youth service project. The last week we have learned a lot about Milbridge and other towns. Today we help with the Women's Health Resource Library. They have a huge basement and lots of stuff that needs organized. So we did. They have a nice building on the Narraguagus River. We played outside by the sculptures. The library has a nice place to read books, watch movies and they have other stuff too.
Day 8: July 16, 2008

Today is Wednesday. We get to go fishing today at Spring Lake Pond. It is past Cherryfield and is very pretty. Noah dug worms for us to fish with and we all learned how to cast at the ball field. When we got to the pond some people went swimming while other people learned to fish. Then we traded and everything got to fish. Almost everyone caught a fish and we saw really big frogs. There were two leeches at the pond. The weather was very nice and it was fun especially when we caught fish.

There is going to be a new computer in the room so that the Mom can play on the computer and the kids can read books. There was legos that we played with. Some people borrowed books and movies from the library.

Day 5: July 11, 2008

It is Friday and today we go to the Schoodic Park. Its the peninsula that is part of Acadia National Park. From the trail you can see Cadillac Mt and the other mountains on the island. We made a volcano out of baking soda, baking powder, red food color, vinegar and water. It was so cool. We learned about the volcanoes that made the rocks at Schoodic and other places. We played a game that we had to act like three different kinds of rock. After we got to go swimming at Jones Pond.
Day 4: July 10. 2008

We went to Jones Pond today in Gouldsboro. We played a game called charades and the words we had to act out where our vocabulary words from this week, we had words like tide pools, animal signs, crab, starfish, ecology, low tide, high tide, predator, prey, pollution, water and lots more. We had two teams and one was called the Tigers and one was called the Eagles. The Tigers won the game because they knew all the words that we had been learning. If the team guessed what the person was trying to act out, the person got a chance to make a extra point by using the word in a sentence. It was fun and we laugh a lot.
Then we went to Milbridge and we went to the post office. The postmaster of Milbridge showed us how the post office worked and we asked lots of questions.
Day 3: July 9, 2008

McClellan Park is near Milbridge where we live. We went and played in the tide pools and learned about tides. We saw the tide come at us while we were there. We played when there was only a little water in the tide pools and Noah showed us shiny rocks. Wilmer found a crab. We all got wet when the water came back in. We say a star fish. The starfish was red and he had five arms.
